The uncomfortable truth about vacation.
When you go on vacation, do you fully relax? Does your central nervous system actually calm down enough that you can enjoy yourself and get some well-earned rest?
I hope it does.
I’m not finding that on this vacation yet, but I can’t decide if it’s just because I’m so tuned into my body that I notice every uncomfortable energetic flutter.
On other vacations that I’ve had in my life, I think I did get to check out of my daily tension caused by meeting schedules and a bulging to-do list.
But at those times, I wasn’t tuned into my energy like I am now… so I may have been so disconnected from my body that I wouldn’t have known if I was really deep-down calm or not.
One thing for sure is that I’m out of my habit field. Ferry schedules, hotels, restaurant meals and tourist crowds do not make up my typical day.
What I’m experiencing now is an in-my-face example of the reason changing habits is so hard.
When you start doing anything differently, be it what you choose for lunch or the rental car you’re driving that’s totally different from your normal car, your energy knows it’s out of routine and desires to get you back to your previous homeostasis.
On vacation, even though I’m having fun, spending much-needed time with Berk and touring gorgeous British Columbia, I’m energetically off kilter, and I can feel it.
Every morning, I still get up early (just as early as I do at home) and do my daily routine with energy work and meditation because if I skipped all that I think it would be even worse.
Then, throughout the day, I find myself doing even more self-care energy protocols than I need to do at home.
And doing this helps me feel great when I’m away from my normal life.
I’m not writing this to complain. It’s just an observation that’s thrumming in my head and I wanted to share it with you in case you ever wonder why you don’t feel completely relaxed when you think you “should be.”
Being out of your comfort zone / routine is a tricky energetic place but, even with something as simple as your breath you can recenter and enjoy everything about your current moment.
Here are a few pics of where I’ve been.
As you can see, it’s all worth it!
